Travel Nursing: A New Opportunity

Nurses, I know it is hard to find a job right now. Especially because, there is too much volume of nurses we are producing. A lot are unemployed while some do have work but it is not nursing related. And even if there is, it cannot satisfy our way of living. It’s sad to say but it’s reality. Being a nurse in a hospital setting here in the Philippines is still quite not a reason for us to stay. We have to admit that, financially they cannot provide for our needs.

Don’t worry, here’s something I know that can help you. I know that a nurse related job is what you want. Plus, having to get traveling opportunities. A career you want for professional growth while having fun and being able to provide competent nursing care. It’s easy. Here’s the catch, have you already heard of “travel nursing”? It’s making it’s way to top your list of choices.

Travel nursing was developed to provide nurses in areas where there is shortage of manpower. Wherein nurses work for a short-term basis. It usually lasts from 4 to 12 weeks. If you are lucky enough, some hospitals offer permanent positions to nurses who showed excellent work. Healthcare professionals are now shifting to this new kind of industry due to higher pay, professional growth and development, and for personal reasons which is having the pleasure of traveling.

I know you are thrilled by the job offer so let me give you the basics. To be a travel nurse, you have to seek an agency that can accommodate your needs. Hospitals needing travel nurses contacts agencies to cover up their shortage. Agencies will be the one to locate job opportunities for you and they are also the one in charge of submitting your applications. Finding an agency can be a burden. They ask for numerous requirements.

One of which is a hospital experience. A minimum of 1 year is what the majority of agencies look for. Although, having 2 to 3 or more could be an edge. You are going to be deployed to different hospitals which may not be able to provide you enough or proper orientations, that is why having a lot of experience is an advantage. Being a travel nurse requires competence in their chosen specialty.

As a travel nurse, you receive a lot of benefits. But this is case to case basis. It depends upon your contract with your agency. The usual benefits aside from higher salary are relocation assistance which gives you furnished housing and having your home away from home. You also get to have health benefits which provides you with life insurances and other medical assistance. And lastly, travel allowance. It is given by your agency to cover up your expenses.

The benefits are tempting, but make sure to check your agency before signing up with any contracts.
